Did you know
that LASIK, ICLs and Multifocal implants are
now covered under your medical flex account?
What is Flex Spending?
Individuals can now use tax-free Flex Spending
Accounts to get reimbursed for eligible medical
expenses. A Flexible Spending Account or (FSA),
(also called flex plan, reimbursement account,
Cafeteria Plan , Flex 125, Tax Saving Plan,
Medical Spending Account), is an employer-sponsored
benefit that allows employees to pay for eligible
medical expenses on a pre-tax. If employees
expect to incur medical expenses that won't
be reimbursed by their regular health insurance
plan, an FSA is for them.
FSA Benefits
FSA accounts save individuals money by reducing
taxes. The contributions individuals make
to a Flexible Spending Account are deducted
from their paycheck before tax. This decreases
their taxable income and increases their spendable
income.
Use it or Lose it!
If the amount you have elected for your FSA
plan year is more than your actual expenses,
you will have to forfeit the overage of funds
you set aside. The excess amounts cannot be
carried over to the following year nor can
your employer return any money remaining in
your FSA to you.
Get signed up for FSA through your
employer today!
Around 90 percent of US employees work for
companies who offer a Flexible Spending Account,
but only about 18% of the US workforce takes
advantage of this program, due to the fact
most don’t know about the FSA’s existence.
Ask your human resource director about open
enrollment and the details about flex spending.
